My M & M's for FCDC!!!

I gave this speech to the FCDC membership, Tuesday evening, November 22, 2011, 9:20pm

Remember the M&M's for the FCDC Movement:

Messaging is paramount as we move forward.  To grow our base, support our candidates and influence voters we need a message that is compelling.  We also need a new committee devoted specifically to rapid response communications.

Membership needs to include a more diverse population – ethnically, geographically and age-wise.  We need to attract more people to our cause and our mission.  Effective outreach is tied to a better and more inspiring message.

Money is essential to growing our organization and will be critical in the upcoming presidential election next year.  I will be active in making those asks for donations here locally and well outside this county and this state.  What happens in Virginia affects the nation next year, and the FCDC is at the center of VA politics.

MeA leader is one who inspires and motivates others to bring their best efforts to the table.  Leadership is plural – there may be only one Chair at FCDC but there are many leaders who are integral to this organization’s continued success.  I want to work with the talented people who make up the FCDC and move us forward toward some very ambitious goals.

In order to thrive and survive, we must be adaptable and responsive to change.  We need to constantly evolve to meet new challenges and to stay one step ahead of the forces that threaten our Democratic core values.  We need to defend our mission of being “the party that takes care of people.”  I hope you will entrust me with the responsibility of leading FCDC into the future.  I humbly ask for your vote on Jan. 3rd.

Regardless of the outcome, please know that I am not running against another candidate, I am running toward a vision for FCDC that I believe I am capable of leading.  We have all experienced the difficulties of supporting Democratic candidates pitted against one another in primaries.  We should not lose site of the fact that once the dust has settled and the contest is over, we are still Democrats.

Thank you!!!
